What’s up y’all,
I am currently sitting in Kansas City, Missouri on this Fall Equinox day, closing the summer door and opening to the next season. My name is Morgan Schoob, I founded and run Devote Yoga. It has been my mission from the beginning to create a yoga business that travels around the world, available to all. No studio space, we are the gypsy’s…. And I believe we have accomplished well in Denver, CO, with room to grow. I am now eager to explore some new terrain : Yoga for the Weirdos
Dictionary says…. “(weird-o) : a person whose dress or behavior seems strange or eccentric.”
Let me quickly explain. Our world is very alive in this unusual, changing time of 2018. It feels like nothing is off limits, in all positive and negative routes and I want to search out this revolution of change. Who better to make sense with than the weirdos? (I.e. intellectuals, misfits, outcasts, rebels, progressives, musicians, activists, shamans and witches, etc.) The one’s who want to talk about the truth, in all it’s brutal glory. So, I am planning to adventure around to find the weirdos and find truth.
First step, I created a “5 Traits of a Weirdo”. These are the traits that have helped me find home with myself and connection with others. Do these sit with you?
This is the beginning of the journey….
5 Traits Begin Now…
Dare To Be : One who grasps the person they were born to be, (usually from a young age). Choosing to be, regardless of the consequences/punishment/isolation from others. The weirdo yearns for freedom to authentically be.
Traits: brave, knowingness, desire, self-motivated, spearhead, stubborn
Seek Intensity (buy a ticket, go for the ride) : Intensity comes in all the forms. Loud and quiet; introvert and extrovert. Sober and non-sober. But the underlying synchronicity of this intensity is “the need to be alive at all costs.” Weirdos seek out that high vibration of life that infuses each moment with the potent scent of truth and purpose.
Traits: freedom, spontaneity, above and beyond, newness, charge up, test the limits
Curious to Not Know : The more we know, the less we know. And weirdos want to know about this world, this life. And we yearn to learn, no matter what. The drive of a weirdo is unlimited. No matter how vast, strange, dark or unknown the questions become, the weirdo will dare to ask, while at the same expense….. curiosity comes with the acceptance of not knowing. Ask anyways.
Traits: curious cat, discernment, imagination, acceptance, frustration, trust the chaosWe All Have Scar Tissue : As being a weirdo holds a great sense of adventure, it is naturally paired with pain from the past. These events that have molded the “weirdo” (i.e. the way we were raised, parents, bullies, blah blah), creating the momentum to blossom and break away from becoming the common sheep. Thus, stepping into the knowingness that there is something better out there. I respect your story, fellow weirdo - good job walking through the fire and coming out alive. You are not alone in your scars.
Traits: survivor, freedom-seeker, forgiveness, spunk, spirit, choice-maker
Change is the only current : We are born and we die. Be here, in this body. Embrace your experience in this life-time, making it what YOU can. Dare to be the most authentic and truthful weirdo, that you are. Wake up, dare, get scratched and bruise. Get healed. Seek it out dude. Love ruthlessly, knowing the heart will get broken. Skate, knowing you will fall. Then get up. Where failure is, success asks to bread. If anyone can do it, it’s you.
You’re either a weirdo or a liar. What do you choose? “Too weird to live, too rare to die.” Hunter S. Thompson
Traits: eagerness, jeti, gun-hoe, cowboy, shamanism, Queens and Kings
Do ya dig? Raise your hand if this resonated with you, respond if you dare.
